“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.  Rather, in humility value others above yourselves” ~Philippians 2:3 (NIV)

“The LORD resists the proud; but He gives grace to the humble.” ~ Proverbs 3:34 & James 4:6

God’s Word reminds us that God Himself will resist us when we walk in pride!  Ouch!  That’s a losing proposition!  The brand of humility required as followers of Christ is that we value others above ourselves.  But this is balanced with an accurate picture of who we are in Christ, chosen and deeply loved.  Maybe you’ve heard the saying:  “True humility isn’t thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less.” We can, by the power of the Holy Spirit, learn to value others above ourselves and walk in true, Christ-like humility. We can learn to pursue humility in our every word and action.  Great freedom comes as we purpose in our hearts to walk in humility.  And Proverbs 22:4 reminds us that “True humility and fear of the LORD lead to riches, honor, and long life”!  So what’s it going to be:  Setting yourself up for resistance from God? Or riches, honor and long life?

It can really help to have someone come alongside us and help us examine the degree to which we are embracing true humility.  Feel free to email Wendy Wilkins if you would like to explore this more. wendy.thegreatexchange@gmail.com

Monthly Prayer Focus:  Pray that our church family would have a deep desire to walk in humility, honoring others above ourselves.  And as we do, pray that many are drawn to Him as we serve from hearts of humility.  Pray that we would each embrace and pursue the fear of the LORD and true humility, by the power of the Holy Spirit.
